The Syrian American Chamber of Innovation and Investment (“SACII,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at sacii.org. We are a nonpartisan organization that publishes research and educational material on innovation, investment and economic development connected to Syria, and that convenes people interested in that work.

This policy covers personal information we collect through sacii.org, by email, by telephone, and when you attend our events or correspond with us. It does not cover third-party websites we link to, which have their own policies.
Information you give us directly. Our contact form asks for your name, telephone number, email address and the message you write. If you email, call or write to us, we receive whatever you choose to include. If you register for an event or express interest in membership or supporting our work, we collect the details you submit for that purpose.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, our hosting provider and analytics tools receive standard technical data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the dates and times of those visits.
What we do not collect. We do not ask for and do not want government identification numbers, passport details, bank account or payment card numbers, or similar sensitive identifiers through this website. Please do not send them to us through the contact form or by unencrypted email.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
We use Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use the site. It sets cookies and collects the technical data described in section 3. We use this only in aggregate, to see which material is useful and where the site is difficult to navigate.
Our pages also load typefaces from Google Fonts. When a page loads, your browser makes a request to Google’s servers, which receives your IP address as part of that request.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can install Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the site behave. If we later add advertising, retargeting or social media tracking, we will update this policy before doing so.
Where the General Data Protection Regulation or UK GDPR applies to you, we rely on: your consent (for optional communications, which you may withdraw at any time); our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving the site and in responding to enquiries; the performance of an agreement with you, such as registering you for an event; and compliance with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
We share information only in these circumstances:
We are based in the United States and our service providers are typically located there. If you contact us from outside the United States — including from Syria, elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa, or from Europe — your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection law differs from that of your own country. By contacting us you understand that this transfer takes place. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as needed to handle your request and to maintain a reasonable record of our communications. We keep event registration records for the administration of that event and our subsequent reporting. We keep information for longer where a law, regulation or legitimate record-keeping requirement obliges us to. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or render it non-identifying.
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and we limit access to enquiry data to the people who need it. No website or method of electronic transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send confidential or sensitive material to us through the contact form or by unencrypted email.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: request access to the personal information we hold about you; ask us to correct information that is inaccurate; ask us to delete information; object to or ask us to restrict certain processing; receive a copy of information you provided in a portable format; and withdraw consent you have given.
Residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia, of other US states with comprehensive privacy laws, and of the EEA and UK may have specific statutory rights. We honour these requests as the applicable law requires, and we will not treat you differently for exercising them.
To make a request, email info@sacii.org. We may need to verify your identity before we act, and we will respond within the period the applicable law allows. If you are in the EEA or UK and are unsatisfied with our response, you may complain to your national supervisory authority.
If you receive email from us and no longer wish to, use the unsubscribe link in the message or email us and we will remove you.
The site is intended for adults and for professional audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
If you contact us about donating, sponsoring or otherwise supporting SACII, we collect the contact details and correspondence needed to respond and to keep an accurate record. Any payment, where one is arranged, is handled outside this website by the relevant financial institution or payment provider under its own terms and privacy policy; we do not collect or store payment card numbers or bank account details through sacii.org.
We link to government sources, research institutions, publications and other organizations. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Review the policy of any site you visit.
We may update this policy as our activities, technology or the law change. We will revise the “Last reviewed” date at the top, and where changes are significant we will give more prominent notice. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
