Statement dated July 29, 2026. Last reviewed July 29, 2026.

1. Our commitment

The Syrian American Chamber of Innovation and Investment (“SACII”) wants everyone to be able to read and use sacii.org, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, need larger text or higher contrast, or use other assistive technology. We treat accessibility as part of building the site properly, not as an afterthought.

2. Standard we are working to

We are working to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. These guidelines are the widely accepted benchmark for making web content accessible.

3. Current conformance status

We assess this site as conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA for the pages we publish. Every published page was audited and no Level A or Level AA failures remain outstanding. We say “we assess” deliberately: this is our own evaluation, not a third-party certification, and accessibility is never finished. If you find a barrier we have missed, we want to hear about it.

The exception is content published by other organizations that we link to, which is outside our control and may not meet the same standard.

4. What we have done

Following an audit of every page on this site, we have:

  • added a “Skip to main content” link so keyboard users can bypass the header on every page;
  • added proper page landmarks so assistive technology can identify the main content and the footer;
  • restored clearly visible focus indicators, so keyboard users can always see where they are;
  • given descriptive names to links that previously presented as icons with no text;
  • corrected the heading structure across the site so each page has one main heading and a logical outline that can be navigated by heading;
  • corrected the contrast of headings that sit over photographs, so text meets the required ratio against the image behind it;
  • consolidated duplicated pages that made navigating by heading confusing;
  • corrected image alternative text, including the site logo;
  • confirmed that all form fields have labels and that the page can be zoomed to 200% without breaking.

We also removed a third-party accessibility overlay widget. Overlays do not fix the underlying markup, and we would rather the site be genuinely accessible than appear to be.

5. Limits of our assessment

In the interest of being straightforward about what we have and have not verified:

  • Testing combined automated checks of every published page with manual checks — keyboard navigation, inspection of the accessibility tree, and measurement of colour contrast against background images. It was not a formal third-party audit.
  • We have not tested with every combination of screen reader, browser and operating system.
  • This site currently publishes no video or audio, so the guidelines covering captions and audio description have not been exercised. If we add media, we will caption it.
  • Documents and websites published by other organizations that we link to are outside our control.

6. Tell us if something does not work

If you have difficulty using any part of this site, or you find a barrier we have not listed, please tell us. Describe the page and what happened, and we will do our best to fix it and to give you the information you were looking for in a format you can use. We aim to respond within five business days.
